Physical Impressions and Scans for your IEM’s
Matt Oliva, Co-Founder
Now that you’ve purchased your UE COMM or Ultimate Ears in-ear monitors, it is time to get either physical impressions (molds) or scans. What you can get will depend on where you live. There are only a few places in the United States to get scanned, so you will most likely go to an audiologist. If this is the case, please read below and do the following:
- Go to Google Maps
- Type your address in the “Search Google Maps” area
- Click on “Nearby”
- In the space provided, type “audiologist” or “audiologists”
- Audiologists in your area will be shown on the map with a list on the side
- Find a few near you and call them to make sure they do impressions.
- You may want to search around for the best price, or easiest place to go for you and your schedule.
- Once you find an audiologist you like, make an appointment.
- Print out the Audiologist Requirements (or you can email it to the audiologist, your choice)
- Make sure they follow this to ensure your impressions don’t get rejected.
- Once they are ready, please ship them to:

If you are going to be in the Los Angeles area I can do your scans, or you can also get them done at Ultimate Ears in Irvine. If you choose this way, please let me know and we’ll get you set up with an appointment…
There are a couple of places where you can get scanned:
Third Encore Annex Studios – our North Hollywood Office.
I am generally available to do scans M – F 10 AM – 6 PM. Some days I can go later, depending on my schedule. These are NOT my office hours, just times I am available. We can also set up a time when another scanner is there who can assist you.
Please don’t stop by; an appointment must be made.
Our office is located at:
Third Encore Annex Studios
10917 Vanowen St.

PREPPING FOR EAR SCANS:
The ear scanning process is generally quick and easy. First, we make sure your ears are clean and that there is no excessive wax or blockage in the bowl and ear canal (if you have an excessive amount of blockage, we have an audiologist who works nearby that can help- you can also go to your doctor or urgent care, but make sure they clean your wax fully.. let them know it is for the purposes of a scan). Then it is a 3-step process – we scan your ear canal, the face of your ear and then fill in any gaps the scanner hasn’t picked up. Each ear generally only takes a few minutes, and the entire process is free.
The office address below is currently closed, but hopefully will be open soon. If you live near this area and would prefer to go here, please contact us and we’ll try to set up an appointment with a local scanner in that area.

Generally, you can to here M – F between the hours of 9 AM – 5 PM and get scanned. I would recommend going closer to 10 or 11 AM to be safe.
